I have enjoyed the Big Energy Race. I work in energy conservation in my day job, but the race has helped me to prioritise some topics which I had not previously considered to be a major issue.
Monitoring meters on a daily basis can help to identify unusual patterns in consumption, and enable us to find the cause. This could typically be something left switched on for longer than necessary. In one case a steam generating iron left plugged in for a couple of hours after it was last used had caused a considerable spike in consumption. This then made us more aware of similar traps which could await us.
