Post related to Info sheet, Pass the Baton

As an Officer aboard a ship in th the Merchant Navy, I have to contribute to something called the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP). As seafarers, we have  a responsiblity to conserve as much energy (fuel) as possible for economic and environmental reasons. Our vessel is relatively energy efficient as vessels go. However, whenever this topic of energy conservation is raised a stony silence often ensues. We are met with confused faces. Hairy faces. Confused, silent, hairy faces.

Not any more.

Today I posted up a checklist that will change these salty seadogs lives forever. Energy efficiency tips printed from this very website. So, the next time we have an energy efficiency meeting there will be no more awkward silences. There'll be suggestions on ways we can improve our vessel's environmental performance: Turning off electrical equipment not in use; Closing curtains in disused cabins; changing the temperature of our hot water; washing our clothes at 30 degrees. Subtle changes that can have massive consequences. But we'll still have beards. Oh yes. We'll still have beards.
